Plastic Thru-Hulls
« on: December 01, 2011, 06:16:29 PM »
These plastic thru-hulls will SINK your boat. One of our good NJSWF member's dropped off his boat and I spotted this real quick. Those cracks you see that are near the red arrow are serious concerns. The ultra-violet rays and age degrade these in no time. One slight grasp on the hose that is connected to these and they can literally fall apart in pieces leaving a nice huge hole in the side. Not good if below the waterline.

Yes. Perko and Attwood make them. Perko has plain bronze and chrome plated bronze. Attwood  has stainless.
Whitecap makes a ss/plastic thru hull. Stainless flange on the outside and plastic inside. Rather interesting.
There is also thru-hulls made of a material called Marelon. Per ABYC Standards, Bronze and Marelon are the only recommended materials for below the waterline.

thats the best part of Task Marine.  You can bring your boat in for a simple winterization, but Task Marine looks over your entire boat for potential problems.   chrz  good find..
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.
