I am in the same boat. Some have told me that Okuma isn't a bad entry level reel for inshore trolling. I am considering picking up a 4 pack rod/reel combo at http://www.ebay.com/itm/OKUMA-TROLLING-COMBO-CPDR-86M-MA30D-ROD-REEL-4-PACK-/400266451961?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d31bd5bf9

For the price and limited trolling I might do this year I think this will be a good start before investing way too much money.

rdent5 first question troll,jig,bait fishing don't think is only small fish in close you can get some rods and reels to double duty.I'm a Avet guy i think you can get away with single speed JX reels loaded with 65lb braid and jigging rods you can use the for bait,jigging and trolling yes trolling if you don't mind trolling with braid, buy the best you can it pays of in the long run.

as far as the okuma combos have level winds on them will not hold up to the fast runs of tuna.

honestly i dont know im green with tuna i have never gone tuna fishing on my own boat before just looking to get as much info as possible
i planned on getting some set ups for jigging and trolling if i can get away with one that does double that would be great

I got a lot of useful info from the guys about the same questions. Which port do you plan on fishing from? I will be out of Manasquan this year if you're nearby maybe we can try things out together.

Good idea guys,, September is a good time to try for tuna within  the range of smaller vessels. But keep looking for posts from members on this sight for info on where they might be.

RD: I don't know what might be running in April, if anything (maybe blues as bait begins to come back to life?) but, I have been reading a ton of archived posts on here about the Mud Hole, Arundo, Monster Ledge, etc. I load-up with just a little bit more info each time.

I have found the biggest help to be where these sites are and that there probably isn't any exact coordinate versus just an "area". I have already put this in my planning software and began looking at the fishing charts. Hope to catch you out there soon.
