Casting an Umbrella Rig?
« on: February 07, 2012, 10:02:04 PM »
OK, some good old boys decided to make an umbrella rig in a miniature size and use it for casting to largemouth bass.  They renamed it the "Alabama Rig" and it apparently works! clp

How long do you think it will be until we see surfcasters lined up, shoulder to shoulder, casting umbrella rigs into the sea for schooling stripers and bluefish? ;D

Was watching them on TV. They said it was hard on their shoulders casting it. But it did seem to make a difference.

I was thinking it would be good for light tackle downrigger trolling.

was fishing one of my ponds for some bass last week and starting talking to another fisherman.  He pulls this contraption out of his tackle bag and says this is the alambama slammer or something like that.  I said i never have seen that for freshwater fishing.  He says its the new rave cause some guy one a bass tourny off of it so its the next best thing.  You do have to be careful freshwater fishing as (i think) some states like pennsy only allow so many hooks.
It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.
