New to the Ft. Dix area

I will be at Ft Dix for a month or two and i am bringing my yak and gear can anyone tell me of some places to fish in the area.

Striper season opens today for the bays and rivers.
The nothern Barneget Bay,  the Manasquan River,  Toms River are all within a reasonable distance from the base.   These areas produce first in the season.   With the mild winter we've had,  I'm sure there's fish to be had.

Worms and artifical baits seem to have been what the first few fish are biting now (according to reports). I am not an expert but, many will chime in and help you out. Shad lures seem to be the artifical of choice this time of year. When the bunker start moving in then it will be live-lining and using bunks.

Welcome!      You've got a great source of info nearby..Stop in and see my old buddies at Sportsmen's Center on Rt. 130 in Bordentown.. Talk to Karl Horvath in the fishing dept.. he'll set ya in the right direction.. If you are a Flyfisherman, Bob Atticks is the Guru, also  at SC..  not sure what kinda fishing your are looking for.. In addition to the salty venues ChrisL mentions,  you are close to the Delaware, which will start to produce Shad and Stripers soon..although I'm not sure what the regs allow there these days ...also  great Channel Catfishin on the river... You're also close to some other good freshwater.. Pickerel should be snappin now in the ponds in the Pines.. other good spots to hit for bass/pickerel/crappies, etc. would include the Assunpink lakes, Mercer Lake, Carnegie Lake.. but again, a visit with Karl or Bob will have you on the right path poste haste.. tell him Provie sent ya!
