The majority of fishermen never hit 8 keepers in a day. When I say majority I'm talking about not just some sharpes in private/charter boats, im talking about guys fishing the surf, guys in rental boats, Kayaks, Party boats.

I think its ridiculous to have it at 18" with 8 keepers when the other option on the table is a smaller size limit. Who needs that many fillets when a lot of guys are not taking anything home? The sizes need to come down first and foremost. Its becoming a catch and release fishery for a lot. 50 to 1 throw back to keeper ratios are common.

it is what it is. now is it 5 fish per day or per trip? 2 trips is 10 fish and still be home by lunch clp now this year well surpass are quota an clpd next year the same guys crying about 18 inches will be crying over a 2 fish bag limit way to go

Its up to you if you want to cheat the system. Maybe last season you were taking home 16 fish in a day. If you want to spend the gas to come back to dock, take the fish to your fluke hideout and then go back out, then by all means go ahead.

Oh im sorry. I thought that was a joke.

Daily possession. That would be a serious hole in the regulations. You can't even use fluke belly from a previous trip for fishing, let alone they are going to let you drive your boat back, drop fish off and head back out.

So, with the new regs we have the same amount of days and loose three fish. All to gain 1/2". Where is the logic in that?

Last year's season:  May 7, to Sept 25

This year's season:  May 5 to Sept 23

Gain two days in the beginning and loose two days at the end. That's a wash.

Just got back from the meeting. South Jersey guys really pushed this thru. Also a notable local man that I respect spoke about the long season being TOO LONG and said even if we have hurricanes in Sept/Oct and can't get out. All those extra days they'll have us overfishing without leaving the dock . Until they change how they count fish he's probably right. They use formulas to count fish that don't involve factoring in common sense. The smaller size will bring out more of the casual fishermen and if they get a couple of keepers then they'll be back. Most were professional Capts. Well I hope we don't get screwed for next year.
