Spinning Reel for New Star Rod
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:22:53 PM »
So, last night I won a nifty new Star spinning rod. Now, how about some suggestions on a decent spinning reel to go with it?

Those Star rods are pretty heavy duty.  Whatever reel you choose, I would suggest something in the 6000 to 8000 size, depending on the manufacturer.

Good luck with it! t^

A good day of fishing is better than a bad day of fishing. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That means work sucks!

What are you planning on using it for?  If its a plugging rod, you could probably do better than a baitrunner.  I've heard nothing but good things about the Penn Battle line...

I think the Shimano 6000 Baitrunner would be a perfect match for that rod.

I purchased a Penn baitcaster last year. It failed me the first time I used it. Returned it only to get a failure on the replacement. Returned again and replaced with the Shimano. No problems with it.

Have a buddy with the Penn Battle who loves it. Not a baitrunner though.
