4-13 first trip of the year
« on: April 14, 2012, 07:00:30 PM »
Passed up five-5$ a bag clams from the clam guy thinking to get a bushell from the local B&Ts. All out. Call the clam guy and he was not in a good mood so we decided to wing it and do the troll.
Had 2 buddies out who were doing ok on stretches. Rounded the hook and got a short and a keeper but it was slow so I dropped a new for me niner on wire and had a fish right away. Set up for 2 wire lines with niners and a mojo down the middle and headed south via the sh channel. We had a very steady bite all in the 16lb. range. Put six in the box and then sat tight waiting for the tide to turn. Threw some top water but no takers. Water was like glass and then a south wind came in and blew us away. Headed back to the hook and set up the niners between the candle sticks and the SH channel and caught the best fish of the day. It was rough and nasty compared to earlier but we boated 5 more fish biggest at 20 lbs , no smaller than 16lbs. the 20 lber had sea lice all over it. Trolled inside the hook and released another around 14er.  Inside the bay the gannets were all over the place . Snagged a bunker and Phill jigged up a schoolie on an ava..
Best opening day for me ever. I hate trolling but it worked out very for us so who is to complain....

 All cell phone pics. Sorry.

My buddy Ken thought he was reeling in tuna!!! lol

Good job. Trolling is a 'you gotta do what ya gotta do' type of fishing. I don't care for it much either but sometimes it's the only game in town. So, whatever it takes to put fish in the boat.  chrz

Nice catching.  t^

BTW, had 2 fish on the Mojo rig. 4oz and 8oz. I guess they do catch fish. They were down the middle of the niners.

good going
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
