Jose Wejebe - Spanish Fly Memorial Tribute Show
« on: April 18, 2012, 09:26:11 AM »
This video was just posted on the Spanish Fly channel.

I had the opportunity to meet Jose at a trade show back about 10 years ago.  He seemed like a genuinely nice guy and his passion for fishing showed as he spoke.  His incredible fishing adventures were what most of us will only dream of.

Jose was one of the very few guys on TV that actually TEACH you how to fish, as well as genuinely convey the romance of fishing.  So many shows are just a moment of "hey look at me catching huge fish, check out how hard I set the hook!!!".  Jose always made you feel like you learned something with each show.

Best part of his shows are where he didnt catch nothing and told you that was fishing.
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Yeah I agree.  Plus he would actually show you technique.  So many of these shows the host just tells you what he's gonna do with the sponsored lure, casts it out, then cut to catching a fish.  I want to see how your jigging it, the pace you're bringing it in, etc.  I want to hear the hunting and eating habits of the targeted species throughout the season.  Too many fishing shows are more about watching a guy catch a fish than HOW he caught the fish.  Jose was one of very few that actually taught his techniques.

My personal "favorites" are the freshwater bass shows.  "Hey watch me drive my super awesome 14 foot boat with a 250-300HP Optimax so I can go flip jigs at 1-3lb bass and then yank them the *^&* out of the water like a slingshot when I set my hook like a BOSS!"

Nice tribute to a great fisherman.. He will be missed..
My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.
