« on: April 29, 2012, 03:52:48 PM »
Went out around 7:00ish out of shark river.ran up to high rise and really beat up the bass.my friend and myself got our limit in 15 min.s largest 24.78 lb,s. then just catching and tossing!using 67,s only.THEN CAME THE COAST GUARD !the fleet was past the 3 mile,s they came up to us asked if we had any bass. we said yes, good thing cause they just warned us. so we ran back home, cleaned fish, took shower by 11;00 am. they told us it,s 100.00 per fish!so guy,s watch the 3 mile,s cause it didn,t look like i was out the 3 mile,s but looked on gps and i was.thank you coast guard!

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

We were to the north a bit...catching bluefish.....i did talk to a couple boaters that were also approached by CG down there today.....but they were 4.5 miles out. No fines but a stern warning....the CG was in a nice mood it seems.....but imho they need to start the fines...its the only way people will learn......its not hard to check the to see if you are outside the 3 NM liine on the plotter....

It would be nice if someone would inform the stripers to stay inside the three mile line. Then no one would get in trouble.

The thing is ,there are some party boats that do it and most people just assume that they are ok by following them.

I am still a fan of the govt painting a 3 mile line from North to South.

Building a wall 3 miles out would be beneficial in 2 ways. First it keeps the fish in and second it would create jobs! Vote for me for president t^

Stiped bass are closed to fishing in federal waters - 3 miles or more from the coast. All charts show the 3 mile line on them.

Thanks for the reply. I am a Beach fishermen so 3 miles is to far for me to cast, so I did not remember the Law. However i did Call The Salt Water division of Fish and game, to have it explained, Since when you look at the Nice chart they made of the Fish Reg. it states the seasons and limits And for the striped bass it has the size limit and dates of closed and open seasons. And Then states that March 15.  to Nov. 30 Open To ALL OTHER WATERS
Is it just me or is something fishy about that. When I pointed that out to the young lady  on the phone Her remark was it does sound Contradictory. But The Feds do Rule. And she also pointed out that there are 3 agency's that are patrolling this 3 mile rule. At $600. a fish. Boy am I glad I can not cast that far. Oh she also pointed out do not cross the line with a Bass you caught inside of the 3 mile and go out beyond after some other type of Fish or chasing the birds over the line or they will Tag You. I'm not sure what chart you are referring to, but the NJ regs published in the 2012 Marine Fishing Issue of the Fish and Wildlife DIGEST clearly state that possession of striped bass in federal waters (outside of three miles) is prohibited. Can you post a link to that chart? :headscra:

Bob I think this is what he is refering to

http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/2012/maregsum12.pdf

The NO CLOSED SEASON for bass--is true IF you are fishing the Atlantic ocean.(within the 3 mile limit) What this means is the lines on the charts that show where the bays etc. start-you can fish for bass all year from shore or on a boat--The thing is you cannot stop and fish for bass in the inlets, bays etc.-but can bring bass in to your dock traveling through them.

IKAT Thank you very much. that is the chart I was referring to. The statement of All other MARINE WATERS one could take that many ways meaning Rivers ,Bays. Oceans, I am not splitting hairs it is what it is. But In very Fine print it says GREATER THEN 3 MILES FROM SHORE CLOSED. Bill
