Great White??
« on: May 28, 2012, 05:23:27 PM »
I just read a report on another site of a 300# great white being caught (self released) off of Barnegat. Also, big blue sharks were reported.

Has anyone else heard of inshore sharking picking-up?

A great white -- and doormats

The most exciting fish of the day was undoubtedly the one which released itself from Capt. Bryne Pieros of Lebanon while he was sharking off Barnegat in just 60-foot depths. Pieros went out there to chum where he'd hooked threshers last year around this time, but instead encountered two blue sharks -- one of which was very large. That's very shallow water for blue sharks, but the next shark was much more surprising -- a great white of about 300 pounds. Whites are protected by the federal government, and it would have been released if it hadn't done so itself. Pieros put his rod in a rod holder as they were dealing with it alongside before the shark tore away and broke the rod butt -- taking everything else with him.

Pretty cool story. Love those Sharks. My shark crew was not available this weekend, wound up bottom fishing with the Mrs.
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

Thanks for the link, Rod. I was on the road. Looks like this year is going to be great for all species. I am stoked!
