Irish Ayes Flukin' 6/10/12
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:46:21 PM »
Since my wife and daughter were going to a Bridal Shower, I had a rare opportunity for some Sunday fishing today.  Capt. Joe had a spot for me, so the Irish Ayes left the dock with Maurice, Tom, Elmer, Pete, myself (and, of course, Joe).

We headed north out of the inlet looking for signs of life to hopefully catch some stripers before settling down to do some fluking.  Well, long story short, we didn't find even a hint of stripers all day.  I guess they don't like to come out to play on the weekends? 5hrug  :headscra:

Our first drift (if you can call it that) netted our first keeper on a bucktail.  I was using a 1 oz. jig, and probably could have gone lighter, as the drift was non-existent.  After moving about 3 feet in 25 minutes, Joe took us further north to find some current.

The next spot was the complete opposite.  Lots of current and tough trying to stay in contact with the bottom, even with a 6 oz. Spro.  We did pick up some more keepers there until the drift died and we started to come back south again.

A couple more spots and a couple more keepers.  Then we rode by Skip (Pops Soul) who flagged us down to tell us about the great day he was having.  So, we hung around by him and boxed several more keeps before finally heading back to port.  Thanks Skip! t^

Final tally (I think) was 81 flukies and 12 keepers.  Pete was the high hook, bringing up his five fish limit (all dragging bait).  Capt. Joe had the hot hand with the bucktails and Gulp!  For a guy that was never a big believer in Gulp! he took me to school today! thud  ;D

All in all, it was just great to be out bouncing jigs for the flatties with Capt. Joe and the crew!  Thanks Joe.  t^

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
