Long Flukin Weekend 6/8- 6/10
« on: June 11, 2012, 11:18:25 AM »
Finally got Fluka Brasi splashed early in the week.  t^ Had the pleasure of meeting Capt. Carl Thursday afternoon to sell him the tailer he snatched from under Joe's nose..  hhppy   Friday morning met up with my Fluke posse Ross and Dave for a 0700 departure from Keansburg..Spent the day getting a feel for things again.. Bounced around various bay drifts.. from the Keanburg Canyon to the tip of the Hook.. Had a slow pick, but a great keeper ratio, with Ross putting the 1st 2 fish of the year in the boat.. both over 20".. with our best action closer to the Hook, moved out to fish off the beach, and found better action.. but still kinda slow.. with plenty of doggies.. Ended the day Friday with 6 nice keeper Fluke from 17.5 to about 22" to start off the season.  Saturday morning was met by my buddy Jay and his Gramps Chuck who came down from Saratoga for a repeat of last years Father's day beatdown.. Headed right outside and started off drifting out front of "Sword Beach" , but after an hour had only 1 keeper fluke and a pile of doggies, headed south to try the SH reef area.. Found better action, but alas lost our drift after about an hour as the tide quit us.. Ended Sat. with another 6 keeper Fluke and  6-8  bonus Seabass to about 14". all on Bucktails/ Teasers.. Jay and Gramps where back Sun. am for another crack at bucktailing the rough stuff.. Headed to where we left off sat.. On the first drop, Gramps rod loads up hard.. What we thought could be a doormat, turned out to be 2 respectable 19" keepers on the jig and teaser..  cfzd .. The man was machine all weekend with the new "snakeskin special" rod I built him in the off season..   We worked through a dead drift slowly, but steadily jigging up keeper fluke and C-bisquits, with couple ling in the mix.. A few nicer 4-5 lbers came aboard, and I managed to shake off a solid 5 lber when the teaser caught in the net.. As the tide finally started to move, the bite picked up and we ended the day with 13 keeper Fluke to about 5 # and 8-10 nice seabiquits.. Also contacted some gorilla class bluefish each day.. Including one racy 13lb demon for me..  In general, a great few days aboard Fluka Brasi... Boat's running like a raped ape... Great weather, fine company, and good fishing..  t^  TT^

PROVIE! Thanks again brother.  Heck of a good weekend!!! Gramp looks forward to this trip all year long (As do I).  It took us 3 hours to get all the fish vacuum sealed and taken care of this morning....We are already minus one whole fluke (they sure were tasty with eggs in this AM)  ;D ;D

Looking forward to our next adventure together. Getting Sara down to the Salt this weekend on a party boat so she can try her hand at a few flat fish!!!!!  t^ t^

Thanks again buddy.  chrz chrz
