Fished Sandy Hook 8/25
« on: August 26, 2007, 11:54:55 PM »
Ok lets see. Went out of Atlantic Highlands at about 1:30 PM today. Was with my cousin and his buddy on his boat. Wanted to go for fluke so we headed out to the Sandy Hook channel. On the way out there we saw baitfish getting slammed in all different spots. HERE CAME THE KROCODILE SPOONS!! Left and right 3-4 pound bluefish we were catching. Landed 9 in a few hours worth of chasing these birds and the bait fish around. Cousin hooked a seagull that was in the way on accident, so he slowly pulled it in, his buddy grabbed it, unhooked it and off it went, better than before  t^.  After doing that we got to the channel and fished just for a little bit but it was verrrrry slow. I caught 1 short fluke and we got a few sand sharks. We decided to take our 17 foot boat out to 17 Fathoms (i think thats what its called) about 110 feet of water. Sandsharks, a skate, and a few short sea bass we got out there. Worked our way in but made a stop after we heard some splashing in the water and drifted along with bunker chunks. This was probably at around 8pm when it was dark already. Slammed 8 to 10 pound blue fish one after another for about an hour. Those bluefish just bring you for a ride and its awesome. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz every 50 seconds. Biggest bluefish was 11 pounds. Headed back to the highlands ramp, I filleted up I think around 16 bluefish, which took me a while. We split up the fillets in 3 ways and we all went home. It was a good day, the water was really calm, and the weather was awesome!  t^

Yeah we made a slow fluke day into a rampaging bluefish day. Haha  ;D
