Warming Up to Summer
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:35:35 AM »
Those of you who like the summer heat, this is good news ;D...those of you who don't like the sweltering, oppressive heat of summer turn on your air conditioners ::)!

The official start of summer takes place this week!  This week will also mark some warming trends, starting tomorrow over most of the Middle Atlantic and Northeast.  A heat wave will affect much of the US, starting in the Plains and moving eastward.  A large ridge will move off the coast of NJ anchoring  high pressure in place and dominating much of the Plains and eastern US through Friday.  The high pressure means clear skies and sunny days, but also brings with it heat!  A cold front will move through Friday night bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms and cooler temperatures for the weekend.6

Tomorrow temperatures will climb into the 80's over much of the Tri State Region.  Wednesday and Thursday will see temperatures climb into the 90's over most of NJ and into the triple digits in interior NJ and PA.  Humidity will be higher as well, bringing high heat indices on Wednesday and Thursday.  Night time temperatures will probably only drop to the upper to middle 70's.  Even temperatures along the immediate coast will reach the upper 80's on Wednesday and Thursday, possibly even seeing 90's on Thursday.  Inshore temperatures will be in the upper 80's and if you get Offshore you will see middle 60's.  The NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly has already issued an Excessive Heat Watch for "urbanized portions" of the Delaware Valley from Wednesday through Thursday Night NWS Excessive Heat Watch.  Winds will continue out of the south, varying from SSE to SSW around 15 knots, eventually changing over to west winds and northwest for Friday with the approaching front at 10-15 knots.  By the weekend winds will switch over to easterly and SSE at 5-10 knots.
