Wet Dreams: Sandy Hook Fluking 6/19/12
« on: June 19, 2012, 07:57:35 PM »
Ran a little quick little fun trip with Matt and Bucktail onboard. Rounded the hook and proceeded south. First couple of drifts produced a couple of fish...snagged and dropped on a school of bunker but only a bluefish bite to show for it. Headed to a real nasty patch of snags for some Sea Biscuits and put a few in the box before losing the tide and the bite. Ran back north along the beach hitting a couple of spots for Fluke but not much success. Continued north past the fleet and fished an area of 50-65 ft and a fast drift but had some life so we kept at it. Bucktail was rewarded with a nice #4 and I had a keeper right after that. South Wind came up pretty hard on the way home as no surprise....Back at dock by noon. Nice to see ya Bob!

[Merged our reports into one]

I got an invitation from BBC buddy, Capt. Carl to do a crew trip for tuna today.  Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, those plans had to be put on hold.

Instead, I met up with Capt. Carl and Matt for some fluking today.  We knew it would be a tough go as the winds continued to blow out of the south, as they have been for a few days now.

We started off fishing outside at the reef.  Despite having wind against tide we caught a few shorties as well as some keeper sea bass.  From there Carl moved us progressively further north, trying several spots before moving back inside.

Had a slightly more action and a little better luck in the bay, finally catching a couple of flatties that made it to the box. t^

We had a fun morning despite the less than ideal conditions.  It was especially nice for me to get my first opportunity to fish on Capt. Carl's new boat, a 32' Blackfin.  It sure is a beauty, with plenty of fishing room.  Inside is a galley, dinette, head, and room to stretch out and relax.  I look forward to being aboard sometime when she finally makes her first trip out to the tuna grounds. clp

Thanks for an enjoyable day Captain!  Best of luck with your new vessel.  slt

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
