6/20 Evening Beat the Heat
« on: June 21, 2012, 08:56:59 AM »
It was hot in Edison, we got a late start but needed to feel the tug. Off we go, Tombinator and I, to a locale that had been producing earlier and lately. The goal was to chill out and flatfish it up for a few hours.
We accomplished it.

Light SW wind over tide barely 0.2kts wasn't cutting it, powerdrifted Ya Sista's A$$ and immediately hooked up and in the box. Setup again and fish on immediately- hookset- and- ZZZZZZZZZ reel exploded, no drag, spins but no line retrieve- I figure this must be the fish of a lifetime.

Went old school, grabbed the rod, then hand-over-hand carefully bring in the braid. Thankfully the water was not too deep and I was bucktailing basically vertical, so another goes in the box. 2 for 2.

Bunker schools are busting everywhere around us. at one point we powerdrifted thru a few they hardly even scattered. Tombo is looking around and underneath them but the FF agrees just bait.

We kept fluking; at this point Tombo is switching up rigs and bait trying to make something happen. He's trying the shuffle step, the patented triple bounce, the wigglewiggle, to no effect. We make a move after powerdrifting back over that area unsuccessfully, and slide another slow drift in, stern-to-sunset. Tide is IN. No more fluke for us.

The CG shows up, doing what appeared to be boat-handling drills, we said C U L8R. Throw on some deep divers, troll back in and enjoyed a few cold ones. Nothing home, not even a bluefish. Saw some cool bioluminescent critters in the prop wash, WOW the bay is alive!

How is it that time on the boat moves along like the DVD on FFWD 4X but all other time goes at realspeed? Another FINE EVENING ON THE BAY.
