Pilot - Whats for dinner? Fluke and C Biscuits 6/24
« on: June 24, 2012, 08:11:40 PM »
Brother Jay was zeroed in today.  He said he would go but we had to be outside.  So outside it was!  We netted a bunch of 4-5" spearing at the marina after loading up with Keyport Kellies courtesy of Capt D.  Hope the Crazy man doesn't mind losing a few of his pets  ;D  We motored off and made a bee line for the sticky stuff where two nice keeper fluke made it to the sin bin.   Spearing were getting punished by the Cbass and we had a real good handful of short fluke for about an hour then the someone flipped the switch.   Bunker were all over the place so we snagged a bunch for strip bait ;)  Found some new ground that was loaded with the sea bass.  We couldn't get the fish off and lines down quick enough.   Ended up putting 13 of these tastees in the bin.  I promised Jay we would give it our best trying to get him a hefty flattie so we kept poking away at any scratchy patch we could find.   The keeper fluke were tough to come by for us today.  So we continued the hunt. Checked out a spot that put some heavies on the deck in the past only to pick up three real good size ling.  T-bone wasn't around so I sent back to the deep.   :-X

Noon was rolling around so we turned the nose of ZO back north and decided to stop on a real real small piece on a hunch.  Jays quicker than a jack rabbit with fresh bunk on the spro and a fluke strip on the teaser  BAMM ! Rods doubled over and he's callin for net before he has a handful of cranks.  I'm liking what I see... could this be what we were after?  Drag is peeling and theres a deep bow in the Lami... A couple of good thumpy head shakes.  A nice shadow forms and sure enough a decent body surfaces with the nylon wrapper hoisted to one stoked lad.   A very nice 6 lber.  Thing was lighter than it looked.  The white meat on most the fish we've caught thus far have been thin and very few fish have had a full belly.  The exception has been a couple of the bay fish which have been loaded with shrimp.

So we finished off the day with 4 keep fluke to 6 lb., 13 keeper Cbass (a couple of quality blue brows), 3 ling,  there were at minimum another 18 short fluke and similar number on the cbass.   Headed back to the dock and on the road by 4:00.  Great day with my Bro t^
