"simple" fluking questions

planning one of my too few trips into RB for flatties, so in an effort to gain as much info, i turn to the pro's.

gotta state i am old school (a.k.a. old) in that when i fish for fluke its killies and squid strip on a single hook or bucktail. So my questions are:

1) are teasers (dropper loop) an/or stinger hooks that productive/necessary? if so is it either or both?

2) last few years Gulp was the must bait, now i see peanut bunker as the bait de jour...  aside from castnetting are they available @ bait shops? if so are they sold live?

all comments/snide remarks welcome. thanks in advance.

 ..I use Bucktail jigs with a teaser tied up about 12 inches with a gulp pogy on a bait holder hook 4/0. Yes you will catch a lot of fish on the teaser. When using bait I am a Killie and Sea Robin or Squid with a stinger hook. Most of my bait is 8 to 10 inches long and a Killie on each hook. Hope I helped, Good luck out there..

I'll answer #1...

I start my day with a 4oz bucktail...adjusting weight as the conditions permit/merit

Up about 12" from that I tie about a 2-3 inch dropper loop, add a hook and put on either gulp or whatever fresh bait there is on hand...

is it necessary?   caught 25 or so fluke today...80% on the dropper

  but I'll add that I was outfished badly last week by a friend three feet away who was using a traditional single hook on a 3 foot leader using long thin strips of bunker. I put bunker on the buck and on the teaser but the fish seemed to want less flash and action. I still prefer buck and gulp when the fishing is on though. Less time rebaiting.

Tons of fluke were were caught LONG before bucktails and teasers became the in thing.

If your old school, stay that way. 3-way, 3ft leader and a 3/0 hook.

Fresh bait is always a good start, gulp work well also, I fish both ways sometimes bucktail/teaser and sometimes fluke rig with bait, all depends on whats working that day if your one that likes to let the bait do the work, bucktailings not for you, you have to really "work" the bucktails for them to produce

Well when the Asian market is fresh outta peanuts I like to sein as many as I can, only use a handful, and let the rest dry up on the beach. Then i smile ear to ear as some smartass calls the F&G bunker busters on me

I took 3 newbies out last week. I set them up with high/low fluke rigs with squid and spearing (both frozen). I used a Spro jig with gulp shrimp. I didn't even have a nibble the whole day and they were catching one after another including one at 24in. I alway's use the gulp and usually do very well but they showed me something that day. It's good to have a variety of baits. With the gulp my preferred color is new penny. Hope that helps.

Change it up, let the fish tell you what they want.  Some days its just a meat eig, then others its a bucktail. I use bucktails 90% of the time with a dropper loop. But theres something about a straight meat rig on a fish finder set uo that does very well to!!!
