Wanted to try fishing bait today, left the dock at 7AM with spearing, squid and a bag of fresh peanuts. First stop was Buoy 8 in Ambrose, not much of a drift but I managed 3 shorts, a couple of searobins (bait) and 3 dogfish. Made a move near the tin can grounds and found a 1km drift and landed a nice fat 18" fish, not a keeper in NY so back it went along with the next 2 NY shorts. Had a nice long drift with drop and reel fluke all between 14-17". Went back again still bailing shorts when I managed and nice fat 21" fish that when in the box. Next drift I broke out the SPRO rig and continued to pick away at shorts and very large robins on the jig. Made a few more drifts across Ambrose adding a few more shorts, doggies and robins. Tied up at the dock at 1:30, a nice end to a 5 day weekend. I do need to get one of those Capt. Joe clickers, I lost count at about 40..
