Drought, Corn Crops, and E10 gasoline
« on: July 18, 2012, 10:46:28 AM »
with the country-wide drought, and the sure to follow crop failures, my ol' girl has asked pretty please if there is any chance on getting some real E-Zero gas to burn.

first I had to pick myself up off the deck after I realized my outboard was talking to me.

second, of course, I immediately looked around to see if anyone nearby had seen the incident (No, phew!)

finally I thought about it and wondered, "Is there a politician out there strong willed enough and not afraid to take on the corn lobby to push for making E0 available again?"

if there was, I'd vote for them in a heartbeat.

I think we need some kinda grass-roots campaign to bring back E0. The ethanol myth is just that. At least make real, unadulterated 100% gas available on the water, where I am paying on avg 50-75 cents more per gallon anyway. We could leverage the unfortunate drought and higher corn prices to our advantage, it's a win-win. Any idjiot knows you don't burn your food!

...and then I woke up

That farm lobby is stronger then OIL even if oil has more money The farmers have more support from the politicians smk. Shell says they refine  fcp sugar not corn. There is more oil under us then anywhere else in the world they say. I say drill baby Drill. Costcos gas today 3.32 what happened since Friday.  :headscra:
On another note wind and solar are viable resources, But Tree Hugger's  cry foul  fcp The wind mills 16 miles off shore will ruin my view and kill sea birds, BS. The fight in Union beach to prevent one at the sewer plant. it will be unsightly, noisy, cast a shadow. again BS. what about that old water tower in town that looks good  fcp I have stood right next to one in Alaska and a slight woosh was not noisy. The town is holding out for a Pay off. but will lose in court chrz sorry for the off topic t^

Since after the embargo in the mid seventies we have been told we are running out of oil. Now they say 200 plus years!! That doesn't count natural gas. Completely foolish to use corn to make alcohol. We need to go take lessons from Brazil! We have politicians in the way of us ever becoming energy independent!!

OK.  Serious question.

So, if we drill here who gets the oil?  :headscra: Americans?  :headscra: At a cheaper price? :headscra:

Wouldn't the oil company (could be a foreign company) who paid for the drilling rights own the oil? And then wouldn't they be able to sell the oil to whoever they choose (could be a foreign nation) at whatever price the market will bear?

That's how capitalism and the free market work.  Right? :headscra:

Think your O/B has problems with this mix, wait till your truck starts drinking E-15/20 in the not so distant future.......cat converters aint cheap.. thud

Its a global market they are going to sell it to anyone. I think our security should come first but it doesn't. We export 400,000 barrels of refined products a good percent of that being gas. You can drill all you want it isn't going to make any difference.

I haven't kept up with this.  Are there any engine manufacturers addressing this issue?  Are there motors that do well with this stuff?

This may get ugly fcp Im sorry you feel they way you do about us "Union Beach" residents fighting the turbine but here are the facts. The 360' tall turbine will directly affect the quarter mile radius of homes surrounding it ( i live 1000 feet away from the proposed area) today I go on my front porch and there is a crane(apx 125') at the area of the turbine which felt like it was over my house. Now whats a turbine with a 195' base and 180' blades going to look like. ??? Not good never mind the strobe effect it will have for 2+ hours a day, the the vibrations that will  compromise our already vulnerable foundations, the low pitched hum that will be caused, and the move of all the animals into our yards and crawl spaces. The turbine is only 1.5 mwph, and will not benefit the residents of UB at all the only Benefit will be to the BRSA in fact besides the above mentioned problems the BRSA has raised our sewer bill to fund this project. We are (Union Beach) the host town for many surrounding boroughs for sewer treatment, and not only do we have to deal with that now we have to contend with the turbine. The same company put a turbine in Bayonne last year and have not had the outcome they projected. So why would we want this when it will only hurt the value of our homes and affect our quality of life. How would you feel if a company locally to your house said where gonna build something for our benefit that will cost you 35k-50k on the value of your already negative( due to the economy) home ??? I respect your opinion but you cant see whats going on in Marlboro, your more than welcome to visit me at my home so i can show you the reasons for our concerns. I We will continue to fight this as long as needed to stop this. Anyone that wants to read some facts or help our cause please go to www.noturbine.org

Turbines should be put in more remote areas. Solar can go just about anywhere. If we would put our natural gas to work gas turbines could also go just about anywhere.

Buck Tail your thinking is a bit off. Yes Foreign Company's do the exploring and drilling, and send the oil to market, But they first have to Negotiate a Contract be it the state or Us Government. It is known that no new refinery's have been built here, WHY  5hrug The restrictions set on them by the Environmentalist, And not in my back yard mentality
Alaska's oil is under a contract with the sate Of Alaska and the oil Company's Its called the Permanent Fund and Royalties payed to the state. what is that fund It provides that every person that is a resident of Alaska every Man Woman and Child gets a Royalty Check from the Oil company's every Year. The oil is then shipped to say Japan Refined and sent back as gas, Fuel oil. that,s why they pay $5.00 a gallon for it when it comes back and most of that is in State Taxes the gas cost no more then here, Nj tax is one of the lowest and we do not pump our gas,  clp there are no American Oil Company's only international ones we regulated them all out. So its is up to US to control who and how the oil is distributed and cost. Plus it welfare for many country's . Ever hear of Dubi, Bonderabus. Adan. Bahrain. Kuwait. but a few. they control oil and we still give them .Aid That's why drill baby drill And put restrictions on how and what goes where. But it will never happen, its a world economy and we pay for it. with Trillions every year. and Those country's I mentioned I was there. 1959-60 and they were not what they are today. we built them . erSo Bucktail its called regulation control but it will never happen. and we have projected oil reserves greater then them, Maybe ask your president why,

Not really understanding your logic? We have refinery's in Nj Conico Phillips being a SMALL one. Drill baby Drill??? were you sleeping when the whole BP episode went down?? The solution is not in crude oil its in alternative fuel and power, you just said the tree huggers dont want a turbine then you say lets put holes in the earth and let oil spill out :headscra: what side of the fence are you on, and why is ethanol a bad thing?? I understand the hole bad for engines not getting what we pay for thing, but if somethings not done the future is screwed you definitely wont see it and I probably wont either but if we dont try to preserve some of whats left thell be nothing tomorrow, Im not a conservationist but i know my son likes dolphins and his ( son/daughter) will probably as well, and If things aren't changed what will be left. ???

I found an interesting article in "Scientific American" explaining why drilling here won't result in lower prices.
