Wow, that's a fish story that could have ended ugly. Great to keep a cool head and think quickly to avoid disaster . Glad that your motor is fine and you were able to cut the rope free yourself.
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

Glad it worked out for you.

As for the a-hole with the camera...what a douche. Sitting there filming what he apparently thought may turn into a disaster instead of having a set of testicles and helping out in the situation.  nosmly I wish nothing but bad karma to come his way.

Glad you're ok Dan!

Dan,

I happened to be running up for another drift when this was going on...I saw a boat come out to you, when I saw him leave I assumed all was O.K.  I could have easily tossed you a line and pulled you out of harms way.

...The one suggestion I did see here mentioned was a Flare, great idea, especially with a ship coming down on you. The pilots on those ships are the best, yet they don't have too much room to manuver. With the tide setting you to the green side in his path, this could have been a horrible ending. God forbide this ever happens again...use that flare, wave a towel anything to get someones attention, I'm sure many will come running to help. Glad your safe to fish another day....but I would wash those shorts!! ;D

Ron, what's the verdict on what the best channel to hail these guys? Like I said, I've tried to hail commercial ships before on 16 to no avail on multiple occasions. I am sure both my VHF work before every trip.

Thanks, Ron. I guess that explains why I've gotten no answers in the past. I thought they were supposed to monitor 16 as well. Next time I will try 13.
