Some more bucktails and fluke balls.
« on: August 23, 2012, 02:08:19 PM »
I am really having fun making these. Especially since they are catching fish. Last week the white/green caught A 4 1/2lb seabass and 6 1/2 and 5 1/2lb fluke.
I have learned a lot since my last post. TY all who chimed in.
First thing is that I was using hard as nails ,  hard as wraps. Regular hard as nails is way better. No need for epoxy.
Also learned how to tie a finish whip instead just of half hitches. Much nicer wraps this way. No little tag end hanging out. I am doing the jigs by hand and the teasers with a tool.
The orange/green was a mistake. It was suppossed to be a different color on top but cooking it changed the color. I like it better this way.
All the white is super glow. The eyes on the pink/white and orange/green are glow. I like the gold flash on the orange/green the best. Matches the gulp nuclear chicken nicely. And the pink/white also matches the gulp.

Just curious, what material do you use for the bucktails.   A friend of mine who has a lead smelting pot made me a bunch of Spro style jig heads. I just whip tie the skirts on them.   I've had very good luck with them and its rewarding to catch fish on your own tackle.

Yours look way better than mine.  Nice work.

Thank you guys.

Newcaddy, I pour the lead and I use all real bucktail.

Hotrod, I would love to make some money from these but I dont really have the attention span to sit and tie all day. I don't know how some of these guys do it. The pouring and painting is easy and goes pretty fast though. I was thinking of trying to unload some at the marina when I fish but I usually leave too early and come back late.

Really Sweet work.  I would be afraid to bounce them off the bottom from the surf or the inlet.

I usually use the cheapest ones I can find and tip them with white or pink curly tails and literately murder tons of blues in the inlet every year.

Hell, depending on price I'd be willing to buy some. I don't bucktail for fluke too often but, would buy from you if I needed to.

IF you were going to sell them do you have a price in mind?
