Castnetting Peanut Bunker
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:06:44 PM »
Anyone know of any good locations along the Metedeconk River or Silver Bay / Barnegat Bay area that productive to castnet peanuts from shore ? Driving up to Port Monmouth on Raritian Bay is OK when I'm fishing up that way, but I need a local location down here. Any Help ?
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

Hi Fishin Dude,

You will not like the answer. The best spots that I net at from land are all private property. This is the sad story of the NJ Shore. No or very limited water access.

You can try any boat ramp on the Metedeconk River. There is one a few blocks down from the intersection of Mantoloking Rd. and Old Hooper.

Also, you can try Windward Beach off Princeton Ave.; the Rt. 35 bridge in Pt. Pleasant; or Shelter Cove Beach in Toms River. The Silverton area is dead (on live on Silver Bay).

There have been a lot of mullet, decent amount and size killies and no spearing to speak of. The peanuts are very scarce as well.

Things are bad on the bait front.

Good luck,

Capt. Ed

Thanks for the info Capt.Ed. Like I said, Lots of bait up at Raritan Bay area, but the only thing I've seen down south was Spearing at the Barnegat Inlet over the weekend, and Spearing and Mullet over at the Manasquan Inlet / Manasquan River area. Got to get the Peanuts, It's like FISH CANDY! <'((((><

Hi Fishin Dude,

I agree ... I never leave for a tuna trip without them either. They have saved many a skunk!

Best wishes,

Capt. Ed

Great Mahi bait (fished on a bare jig head.
Especially When the mahi are on the pots, but have turned off after a few have been caught.

let a fresh dead sink 10-20' and BAM!

Don't forget the ramp on the canal off Bridge Ave.  With the fast water, I've seen them take shelter in there many a times.
