braid vs. mono

Been using braid for years on my conventional equiptment. Never liked the idea of it on my spinning gear, well I gave in and put it on one of my surf outfits. Guess what? I should of done it years ago. Question is anybody have any issues or problems with it DO's or DONT's rather hear it here then experience it in the middle of the night or worse yet ia all out BLITZ cause its coming!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah..  lol  I do use it on my larger trolling outfits.... probably only because I can't afford to load them with brad

There are a lot of conflicting opinions on wind knot prevention.  That's really the biggest issue with it on spinning gear from the surf.  
But a few tips
-If you're working a plug like a pencil or popper where the line will go from slack to tight, slack, tight, etc, etc.  After several casts, do a straight retreive to allow the line to repack tightly onto the spool.
-Too much line spooled on for the given reel will result in knots.  
-When working an AVA repeatedly in a heavy sweep, the line will twist (like winding a spring) and as soon as there is slack in the line, a twist will curl up and form a mess.  I have no solution other then wait a day when the sweep is the opposite direction and reverses the problem

thanks guys, chris i was running an ava last night but i'm using a mono leader with a quality barrel swivel, through alot of casts but no problems. thanks for the heads up. Rod maybe if you worked a little more instead of fishing 24/7 you could afford to outfit all that braid! lol lol lol Thanks again guys

Even with the swivel, it will still twist the line.  I don't believe a swivel does it's job unless there's a load on it (a fish).
It's not a problem 90% of th time.  It's those days with a hard north blow where the swell is moving left to right and the AVA is getting swept sideways along the bottom on every retreive.

braid is great but need to know its limitation. i believe the major limitation in braid is its lack of stretch combined with its abrasion resistance.  soon as braid hits against some type of structure it seems to fray.  I've learned the hard way to constantly inspect my braid.  i always fish with some type of topshot weather it mono or flouro depending on the situation.  i also like to fish with a higher pound test braid than my topshot so when I do get stuck and can try and save some of my rig and not lose any of the expensive braid.

All that mono is good for is backing on the spool to prevent the braid from slipping.

All that mono is good for is backing on the spool to prevent the braid from slipping.

I have learned from surfcasting with braid over the years to manually close the bail and pull the line "up" slightly to ensure there's no wind knot there. Don't even know I'm doing it anymore.
