Fluke Work, went fishing instead
« on: September 06, 2007, 09:17:09 PM »
Knowing I couldn't skip work on Friday, and with the weather window not looking to promising for the weekend I skipped work today for a last chance fluking run. I gave my brother in law , Coyote Cal a call in the morning and twisted his arm to go , since he is retired all it took was the phone call. We left the dock at 10:30 and hit our first drift off of Asbury in 65 feet of clean water. We picked up 2 shorts. Next move to a lump off of the red church71 feet of water. Coyote Cal banged 3 keepers on his chrome ball with a stinger  and teaser rig and his bait of choice Gulp. The seas were in good shape with a tight chop with a 1 to 2 foot roller mixed in. I was only able to put shorts on the boat all day no matter what I did, short fluke, short seabass the only thing I caught that was nice sized was Sea robins and skates. With the oceans building through out the day and several other moves back southward but being able to still fish deep water holding with 8 ounces and the drift anchor out we stayed on the until 6pm with our last drift now in  4 to 5 foot seas and 10 oz we called it quits. When we left the inlet we had a pretty much an east wind at 5 to 8 knots, when we came in it was south east and an easy 15 knots. All and all a great day to skip work. TT^ TT^

Hi Skip, now I know how you got the nam Skip.  It has to do with a no-show at work.  My kind of guy.

Good job on the catch.  Squid Head, i presume.  I will be taking Hareball and Capt Mike there tomorrow for our first stop.  Then to the Rocks if needed.  Last few trips Squid Head was the only stop needed.   t^

Yes Joe Squid head produced, also came back to thr triple lumps , picked up a keeper there and lots of shorts also dropped a lot of fish because of such a fast drfit. So you may want to head there first then north
