Need fuel tank pumped out and cleaned
« on: October 05, 2012, 03:46:48 PM »
Does anyone know of a company that would come to Belmar marina and pump out about 100 gallons and clean my tanks. I also saw a site in Florida that would suck out the fuel and run it threw filters and put clean fuel back into tank. Does anyone have any idea who does this service. Thanks.  Mike

Mike first why do you want to do this. And why  5hrug
If were diesel it would be another story.
I did a massive web search and gas not mentioned Diesel Change filters put additives ---Shake do  fcp not stir sorry about that. I would suggest you call a marina such as Comstocks or any major Marina and ask them. There are additives for Ethanol based fuels and stabilizers. Stabol

What size boat do you have? Make, length? Size of your tank? I pump tanks out in the yard. Is all your fuel bad or just some phase-sep on the bottom? If you need it all pumped give Tonk's Oil Disposal in Tom's River a call. Not sure if they go up to Belmar. They pump my waste oil drums and my drums of Phase sep fuel.
Like I mentioned in another post, once the fuel is phase-separated there is no cure, fix. No Stabil, Startron or any other fuel treatment can make it go away.

Hey Matt it's a 28ft gradywhite. 70gallon tank full and about 30 to 40 gallons in a 150 gallon tank. I poured the water/fuel separator into a glass jar and it is like iced tea color and it has stayed that color for days now and hasn't gone to the bottom only. Do you think it could be saved. I am going to change my filters this weekend when I go down there.

If I may 30 To 40 Gals. Avg. $5. a gallon. = $200 Avg. When in Question throw it out. Damage to engines Sea Tow ????? .
Or siphon some off put in your lawnmower see how it runs, I would say it won't.

if you got outboards, you can get another fuel line/bulb and attach that to the bulkhead fitting.  Then let it hang down into a gas can.  I did that for 120 gallons when I bought my boat because it was sitting for a while.  Didn't want to take the chance.  I pulled the fuel sender a few days after I got it home and it smelled like varnish.  Emptied the tank out and ran off a portable.  Dont take much to run around the bay.

I've never heard of a "fuel polishing" service for gas..just diesel.. don't mean it doesn't exist of course... But my experience with old gas tells me you may be better off dumping it.. yes, it is a few hundred bucks worth of gas, but I can't see spending more money trying to save it.. if the process fails (as Matt suggests is likely) ..the the cost of repairing the damage may be far greater..and in the end you have to dump it anyway..

Personally, Just me mind you, but I wouldn't do anything with 100 gallons of flammable liquid. Wearing the wrong kind of shoes or clothing can make you a charcoal briquette fast. I'd get someone who can pump it out. Talk to a local marina mechanic.
