Looking for a reel, help needed
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:36:52 AM »
After fighting that Sword fish on that POS rod I used, I want to get my own setup.

I would like to get a reel with a line counter on it that I can use for Tuna. Anyone know of a decent reel with a line counter on it that can handle Tuna and Swords I can look at?

Thanks

Go with what ever reel you think is nice, and use metered boat braid. The metered powerpro color changes every 25' with spots marked every 5'.

Easier  to just mark your mono every 50 feet

That would be a slightly cheaper than buying a $3500 reel. ;D

$3500 for the reel, the battery, charger, and a nice rod will set you back another $1000. I think I heard Santa laughing at me.

Pick up whatever reel you like and put a Berkley line counter on the rod. Portable so you can use it for any variation rod/reel combo you have.

Not plugging Bass Pro Shop, just wanted to use the pic of the line counter. Wayyyyyy cheaper that the reel posted earlier.  TT^

I used that on the trip. It didn't work too well with a larger reel and when you had to let out slow to not spin the bait and sinker.

I used this counter on the trip. You had to hold the line down into it because the line from the reel was to high. It did OK and that could be a backup plan.

Put the counter higher on the pole where it is between eyes that have the line closer to the rod. That should take care of the one problem.  5hrug

Hmmmmmmm, sounds like someone might be trying to justify buying a $3500 reel.  ;D

Pick up a couple of reels  that Bucktail suggested so I can use the spare so it will wear out equally and you can do maintenance on both at. The same time.  pcrn
