Don't worry about the crabs in your pocket. Your fingers get so cold, you don't feel them bite.

You have to keep them in your pocket so you can get to them fast.

Don't forget to bring scissors to cut the crabs.

You want a med  rod. And no definately dont want your bait to move need to keep it as still as possible. The bite well thats up to the fish  sometimes the pick pick pick sometimes the will hammer it all depends. Rigs are more or less preference I personally use size 3 or 4 Gami pctopus hooks. No hardware just leader sinker hook. I use 50 lb Berkely big game for my leader. The key is with the rod you need something with some backbone in it to get them off the bottom  but light enough to fight the fish. Take into mind we can be fishing in anywhere from 40 to 140 feet of water so if your using a broom stick it tends to get heavy.  Unless you have the stick and Ive only seen two in my whole life one in the Smithsonian and one NJBob has

Slack line, nibble, nibble, nibble, reel up and rebait your hook cause the Togus Toothis is way smarter then us fisherman.
