Blackfishing is simple.

1.  Drop your baited hook to the bottom
2.  Ignore the little nibbles
3.  When you feel a solid thump, SWING!
4.  Curse out loud.
5.  Reel up your empty hook
6.  Put on a new crab
7.  Repeat step one

See?  Simple.

Catching Blacks in Long Branch?  That would not be my choice of baits.

i remember the days of catching tog from long branch pier fidlers was the ticket always did good in the middle drop down next to pilings
caught many 5-8 lbers also miss the winter night bite for whiteing and ling the good old days

Catching Blacks in Long Branch?  That would not be my choice of baits.

Off the pier, sure that's what we all used, and did well too  . We are talking a long time ago...I was little...I loved that place. The fishing stories I could tell; the whale that came up on the side in the shallows..OMG I'll never forget it! He took my line till I cut it, and almost spooled my brothers reel clean; he was joking of course saying things like "I'll get him Trish...I'll get um!! We were cracking up!! It was GREAT!!    Well to me it was; all the memories with my entire family are really special from there...we were given nick names; the regulars called us "The Fishes" Mr and Mrs Fish, obviously my parents, and I was 'Tinker Mackerel' Hence why the name of my boat is Mr. Fish...memories of a life time that I will never forget!!!

The ling and whiting were some of the best times!!  Cold...and when that wind would blow the pier would sway side to side! Good times fer sure!!!

Is it really going to be warm enough for shorts? Even if so I am wearing pants. I don't want anyone looking at my white leggers!!

Someone usually picks up the whiteleggers and gets reimbursed.
You might also want some 3/0 or 4/0 Gamakatsu octopus circle hooks and some flat bank sinker in the 6oz to 14 oz range.

    Sand fleas are a secret tog bait down in Delaware but are hard to come by here unless you dig them up at the surf yourself.  Gulp works too.
