I'm sure people are already there waiting.  I learned my lesson after Irene.  Bought 1 as soon as they got a new shipment and got the very last one.  I'd have bought another one if I had more money.  If anyone is really looking for 1, think outside the box.  Places like pepboys and/or camping stores carry generators also.  You can also use inverters depending on what kind of power you need.  Last year, I ran 1 sump pump off my car since I couldn't find a gen.

I was at the Home Depot in Hamilton earlier today to get a plumbing item and saw about 50 or so people milling around the middle of the store. Looked like they were waiting for a seminar to begin. Come to find out, they were waiting for generators to arrive.  thud

I don't have a generator and can't swing buying one right now.

However, I do have some propane for the grill and I'm probably going to pick up some wood for my wood stove. t^

Bob, my wife said the same thing, as long as there's gas in the tank we can cook vittles.  t^

I only have a 900 watt Chicago generator form Harbor Freight that I bought for a night fishing trip. After all coupons and sales it was like $79. Cant beat it. I can care less if it lasts for 2 uses. I fired it up today and trialed it on the fridge. That works for me.....

I have a grill and smoker and an old propane camp stove so, I would be good if it goes to hell in a hand basket. I'm in a pretty good location in Bucks County, PA and usually spared when it comes to loss of power.

We picked up a 6kw at Shoptrite for $500 last night.  Being out of work for the last 6 months, I didnt want to spend the money.  But thats what plastic is for.  Should be able to handle both refrigerators, micro, coffee pot, modem/router, chargers and lighting.
Plenty of wood on hand for the fireplace.
And we have french toast supplies.
We should be all set for this one.

Hope that gen set does not go up in smoke with the plans you have for it,  cfzd I would rethink all That And scale it back big time.

I don't think it's that unrealistic. If he ran everything at the same time he's probably at the 5,000-6,000w mark. I would avoid running the micro and coffee maker at the same time.... They're the 2 biggest watage devices on the list.

Not trying to knock you but, a 6000W generator can be bought for $500.  And not suprised if it would have been available at Shoprite with the storm.  After Irene EVERYWHERE I went had generators available.......for a few minutes.  Shoprite, walmart, kmart, pepboys, autozone, pathmark, EVERYWHERE.  It's not an everyday item they carry but they do get them when conditions call for it.  After Irene, I'm suprised everyone doesn't have one already. lol.  Maybe after this storm.

A lot of people who bought them for Irene returned them when they found they didn't need it. Kind of a lame thing to do. They should have at least been charged a rental fee.

And, yes, a generator can be had for a reasonable price. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who just left Lowes in Hamilton with a 5500 watt Briggs and Stranton for $800.00 An off brand would go for less.
