Slightest bit of good news out of Washington=markets go up. A hint of bad news=markets go down. Volatility is the name of the game right now. I don't really think its going to equate to another recession but it's just going to get a little bumpy for a while. Alot of analysts I follow predict a solid 2013.

Exactly.  I'm resigned to the fact that nothing about the market reflects truth anymore.  What I am more concerned about is the price of fuel today.  President Obama has stated repeatedly that Americans need to start getting used to $4+ a gallon for fuel.  I just flat out disagree.  We have the resources to keep costs down, we just refuse to use them under the notion of moving forward with green energy.

Yes it's cute that people drive smart cars now thinking they are doing their part, and sure it helps a bit.  But let's not forget when these people come home and plug their cool cars in and go inside and hop on their Ipads that are connected to the network through their routers and watch TV on their awesome 55 inch plasma's all of the energy that powers them is coming from a power plant that is likely fueled by natural gas or coal.  Then they go and make dinner with their organic food that was delivered across the country by a Peterbilt/Mack/International diesel truck that now pays twice as much for fuel as they did 4 years ago.  Not to mention the delivery of the Ipad/TV/Smart Car/Router/cool energy efficient lights that all made it to them courtesy of deisel/jet/gasoline/oil fuel.

We don't have any viable alternatives to power the country and its commerce yet.  Meanwhile our president is insistent on keeping the costs of dino fuels up which raises travel costs, food costs, the cost of goods, and even the costs of services.  All the while the average household income during this time has barely moved and our homes have barely appreciated any value at all.   ovrbt

Two questions for you Mike.

1.  How is the president "keeping the costs of dino fuels up"?

2.  What resources are you referring to when you say, "We have the resources to keep costs down"?

My Vote is with you. The oil Company Monopoly's Have the Governments hands tied and BSed, But again its Big Money that has us BS. The series On TV about The Men that Built America. Was that it showed how only a few men had complete control over the nation. Till they were broken UP. What is wrong with Gov. Reg. on Oil company's in stead of Millions in subsidy's, Why no Cry on bail outs for them. Exxon Has yet to pay for the damage they caused in Alaska. Nor will BP.
Or remove Oil from the market that raises Oil only with speculation. Then Keep the Billions of Funds Paid out to any oil or non Oil Nations They hate us anyway.
Charity begins at home.
Sorry for the rant. ttp But till Our Government stops with the Lies and BS. and Politicians work together as they should be doing in the first place. And A President Gets off The Plane and sight seeing trips let alone still stumping to gain support for what will fail , Think The market is going to improve only the people that make their money from it will tell you that.  And The one question I posed to them has never been answered honestly or any way believable.

Hay where did The Money  5hrug Go. What do you mean its Lost  smk someone has it. I gave it to you yesterday and today Its Gone, Lost, Missing in action
How did that happen. Its Like BP sell once burned Gas  for Halve the price of of non burned Gas.  fcp pcrn

1.  How is the president "keeping the costs of dino fuels up"?

2.  What resources are you referring to when you say, "We have the resources to keep costs down"?

He vetoed the pipeline from Canada and has shut down any advanced attempts of drilling at home.  We have means and resources right here in our backyard Bob.  The President has the power and means to reign in the price of fuel, he does not want to do so because he wants to be known as the president who began the movement to "green fuels".    He has flat out stated time and again that he will not work to keep oil as our standard relied upon fuel, including his statement that Americans need to get used to paying $4 plus a gallon for gas.

There is no alternative right now no matter what people think.  There is alternatives for small vehicles but that's it.  There is no green alternative to move cargo and food across the country.  Hell, a "green" vehicle couldn't even pull my boat much less a tractor trailer of supplies and food.  There is no green energy that matches dino right now.  Sure, you can reface the country with fans and solar panels and have 5 acres of each for every 100 or so citizens, but that's not practical.  We could go to all nuclear but that really isn't clean either, that nuclear waste has to be buried somewhere and who really wants to live anywhere near a potential Chernobyl?

I agree we need to make a push for a better fuel alternative.  But before we start pricing out the only means we have how about we actually invent the alternative first.

My Vote is with you.

For the record, I'm not sure how your vote is with me.  I didn't make a statement.  I only asked a couple of questions.

Anyway I'm sure, now that you've turned a harmless "I'm sick of hearing about something on the news" thread into a political one, it won't be long before we'll have to take it down. ;D

Simple answers. By mandating Bio Fuels and different rules for different states. For one

Other resources . Use the ones we have here in The US  Coal. Natural gas. Oil Yes OIL. stop with the exporting and pay outs to not explore and or produce . .
My Question to you is Where does all The Alaska oil go and how does it effect us.  ttp ttp
Whats up with the hold back on a Canada Pipe line, seems they have more marketable oil and gas then we do as of Now. Why Is gasoline over $5.00 and Diesel $7.00 in Alaska when they have so much Resources of Oil and refineries. The prices on Most gas state to States is due to Taxes.  Why can independents sell it for far less. RT 9 Monmouth County Exxon and other brand names $3.75 and some were higher. and Cosco and Gandhi gas Goes for $3.29 Cash. 10 Cents more on Credit,  Cosco Credit or debit.
Are People stupid  ::) Why go into a station where gas is $3.75 and the one next door is $3.29  5hrug

Mike you also forgot to mention the 400 billion barrels of oil that we have stock piled. Im all for alternative fuels, ie. bio diesel, ethanol, just think they need more efficient ways of producing them. As far as power goes its already headed in the right step, with very minimal amounts of coal/coke plants left a majority of power plants burn natural gas which is extremely efficient in certain setups. For example natural gas runs through a gas turbine ( makes power) the exhaust gas from the turbine runs past boilers (makes steam) the steam goes into a steam turbine (makes power)then the exhaust gas is re introduced into the combustion air( like an EGR in your car). And after the steam goes through the turbine whatever is still steam goes through the plant as auxiliary steam to heat the water before it goes into the boilers. Very minimal emissions and utilizes all the hydrocarbons out of the fuel.
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Andy and Al very good. My Buddy in Alaska use a Wood Gasifier Generator. It not only gives off all the heat he needs but provides Electric . It can power many other thins from Trucks to any engine. Just from the gas given off from Wood burning and gasafying ( spelled wrong ) But before we begin  to deforest the woods it is a renewable resource. And catalytic Clean. -  It is On of 1000s of ways . Sun, Tides, Gravity, Water.
Ever hear about the guy with a pill in a gas tank of water that make gas. hhppy Or Nitrogen from Water  clp Very Close.

With many years with GM the electric car is BS so far. The cost , Replacement and recycling of the Batt. for one plus you still use energy to charge them  fcp

00ps Left out More Bs who gains from Solar Panels on your Roof, When with no electrical power from out side you get non from the Panels, Since they do not work that way. As many Thought.  5hrug And do not even say storage Batt.  fngr

Oil prices are based on the world market not just here.  We EXPORT over 400,000 barrels of refined products a month. Unless the government takes over the oil companies or a cheap source of energy is discovered it is what it is.
