TREAT YOUR FAMILY TO A ‘WILD TIME’ AT THE WORLD FISHING & OUTDOOR EXPOSITION, FEBRUARY 28-MARCH 3, 2013 AT ROCKLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE, IN SUFFERN, NY

SUFFERN, NY – February 4, 2013 –- Looking for that unique family experience? Find it here at the World Fishing & Outdoor Exposition, February 28-March 3, 2013 at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY. Where else can you test your fishing skills, hunt for fossils, see amazing animals, and find the best hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, all under one roof? Only at “The Suffern Show!”

As expected, “The Suffern Show” is THE destination for sportsmen, but it is also a great place for family entertainment.

Families will be fascinated by the Two by Two Zoo and their Wild World of Animals program. The Two by Two Zoo is not your typical petting zoo but an educational traveling outreach program with a conservation message. Their program will feature coatimundis, alligators, a kangaroo, a giant rabbit and a tortoise! Guests will see these animals up close, learn about their habitats and behaviors, and even be able to pet some of them.

Also appearing is Talons, a demonstration of birds of prey that will captivate everyone. Master Falconer Lorrie Schumacher showcases live hawks, owls, and falcons while explaining the art of falconry and the importance of raptor conservation.

The whole family will enjoy the Hawg Trough, a 5,000-gallon fish tank loaded with monster large-mouth bass. Watch the nation’s top pros demonstrate the latest lures and techniques as they fish the Trough. Test your own skill at landing the big one at the Fishing Simulator. A large screen television shows the fish you have just hooked as he jumps and dives to get away. You will feel the pull on the line as you battle to land this fighting fish. Angles of all ages will thrill to the challenge. Grab your rod, and hold on! Jaws will drop at the sight of the World Record SCI Archery Brown Bear, on display at “Live The Wild Life” television program booths #515 and 516. Program host Gus Congemi never does anything halfway, and he proved his “mojo” by harvesting this bear in November of 2011. The magnificent animal was shot from a distance of five yards out and the entire adventure is recorded on video.

Also on display is the Big Rig, an SCI All-Time World Record Non-Typical White-tail Deer head that will be on display at the Mountain Run Ranch booth–#426. Sunday is Family Day, and children age 11 and under are FREE when accompanied by a paying adult, plus there are a host of special activities on tap just for kids.

How would you like to find a fossil from millions of years ago? Or some “rare” gems? Well you can, at the Cold River Mining Company experience. At the “Cave,” kids will enter a dark, cave-like atmosphere and hunt for real fossils. They can also pan for gemstones at the old-fashioned mining sluice and see what treasures turn up.

Let your kids discover the joy of fishing by participating in the “Reel Kids” Casting Event on Sunday. The event gives kids of all ages instruction in the three most important casting skills needed in bass fishing–flipping, pitching and casting. Members of the New Jersey Bass Fishing Federation will provide instruction.

Be sure your kids sign up for the show’s Scavenger Hunt. Stop by the Kid Fun activities area on the first floor, get your checklist stamped, and then visit the Grand Prize Giveaway booth for a free prize! Dozens of children will be winners on Sunday, as the first 100 children, age 11 and under, attending the show in the company of a paying adult, will receive a FREE Plano tackle box. It’s a great way to get your junior angler started!
