Teasers/flies
« on: February 17, 2013, 06:32:49 PM »
Last couple weeks I have been messing around with tying. My experience is limited to some trailer hooks and my bucktail jigs. I am still using sally hanson nail polish but plan on using epoxy soon. The hooks are all different styles till I get the hang of it. Mostly these will be used as teasers above jigs and the darker black/blue and pink ones are for cod. Some will be used on fly rods. The rainbow looking ones stared as a joke but will look good on wonder bread plugs and for weakfish teasers.   Please feel free to critique.

Great work Keith.  I love to tie myself but through the years I have cut back on the fancy stuff and stick to some basic colors that I know catch through out the season.

The Blacks and yellows work great off the surf which is my target area.  Oranges work great as well with greens also thrown into the mix.

One hint is to think of the species that will be inhabiting the area and mimic those fish baits.  One trick it to keep your light colors on the bottom and the darker shades up on the back of the teaser.  If you look at most fish their bellies are much lighter than their backs.

If you want to get a bit more fancy throw in a lateral line by using some Peacock Herl. and a very little bit if light flash-a- bo for some shinny or glittery effect.

These are just some hints as your tying looks great.  Keep up the good work.

Happy Catching

What thread are you using on the head wraps?

I am using rod building e thread right now. I need something smaller in diameter though that is strong. I have some sewing thread too that I tried but it breaks to easy.

I like using Danville's  .006 Monofilament Fine.  It is strong and when you put on what ever head cement it disappears and brings out the colors you are using below.

Thanks for all the compliments.   Big al, it is a hollow tube that slides over the thread and hair.

E-Z Body by Hareline Dubbin
I use it on all my sandeel and handbody teasers

Nice looking stuff Keith.  The wraps will be better and easier with practice and the right thread.  I like Danvill fine mono for some patterns and Danvill or Uni-thread colored threads on other patters.
