I like 4 for the late season also but i feel for the partyboat capts. i'm sure they would like the 17.5" to keep customers coming, just an opinion.

I dont think 1/2" will stop customers from going on party boats. 18" fluke is a desend fish.(jmop)

HORRIBLE..... Early start given to the south again....   rgmn

we are slowly working our way to a mid season closure giving away days and eventually shrinkage of the bag limit  nosmly

With the location of the meeting it is no wonder the southern guys have an advantage on what it chosen. There are probably double the amount of southern guys at the meeting as there are northern guys. More people have to show up for these events in order to have their say.

It will be interesting to see what is in season when the fluke season shuts down in mid September.

Had nothing to do with north or south.  It was the right option to keep the 17.5 fish.  There is a small chance that we could get some unused quote from another state and add days at the next meeting.

I guess you were not at the meeting.

Last year the meeting was in toms river but they were unable to get the room this year.

enjoy the right choice as you say.....cause when its 3 fish at 19 inches with a july closed season we know who will be screaming the opposite song... i'm guessing guys can run blue claw crab charters in the down time....

we CANNOT keep giving days away and expect to ever get anything back in the future...

But bank it now while you can.... chrz

I know you were not there.  This meeting went a little bit different.  Dick Herb had any of the Advisors that helped to make the option speak first on how they can up with them.  They explained that there was a possibility that is being looking into about states that do not use their quotas going back in the then being redistributed to other states.  We will find out more about that in the May meeting.  Many of the guys that fish from BL (North)  changed there minds to one of the 17.5 inch options.

Will the MFC does not know if they want to used anything of it. It was requested that they take a hard look at it using it.   Mr. Herb did say that if they were to use it they would only be able to tack on to the back end of the season.

The overall quota for 2014 will be reduced from the 2013 quota.  That is already in the works.

Sea Bass is the big question that I want to know about.  Right now we have some gaps in our season right now.  Last year we over came that and I am hoping we can do that again.  Not knowing the Sea Bass season also was talked about.

I would like a slip season in that.  I am hoping we will see a closer during fluke season and during the spawning time.

I personal spoke about keeping a 17.5 fish and chose option 2 or 3 since they had the same amount of days to fish.  This poll and all the other polls showed that keeping 17.5 inch fish was important.

The commercial overall quota was reduced.  I do not think there regs are set by the state.  I believe they are done by the feds.

Fran, thanks for your time and the effort you put into this.  slt I know you do a lot of work on this for little recognition and no compensation.

Another thing I want to mention, and Fran (or anyone else), correct me if I'm wrong on this. I don't think the council that just voted on these regulations is the culprit here. This council is given a quota by the feds and this council must come up with seasons, size limits and bag limits that would fall into the quota given them. It is a hard job for this council to then decide on which is the best choice for the majority of the fishermen. For what they are required to do I also give them a big  slt.

Every year we just keep losing days. Now we lost 20 days. Next year we will lose another 10 days and so on until we have nothing.  cfzd
