My new rod
« on: September 18, 2007, 10:23:35 PM »
So I'm driving back to the job the other day at lunch and I notice what looks like a rod laying on to trash cans. This is Avalon, and you can find some interesting stuff out for the trash. I turn around and check it out. Lo and behold it's a damn near brand new 9' Okuma Fin Chaser rod. I couldn't beleive it! I've checked out some other curbside rods but they were trash-broken guides, frayed wraps, etc. This thing was bright and shiny. I stood there looking at it for a couple of minutes and put it in my truck. Trust me , the surroundings gave no indication that some set it down to for a minute. This was last week and the town is well thinned out till now. I'm planning on going to the Hogde Podge to see about a reel, but

I wondered if you guys might like offer a suggestion. Let say a decent reel, affordable, nothing spectacular, but nice. Also, where is one best suited to use a 9' rod? I'm thinking loooonnngg casts on the jetty or beach?

I think I could be a really good people person if wasn't for the people.

I'm not catching any more fish, but I'm starting to learn why I'm not catching any more fish.

How much do you want to spend on the reel?

If you are looking to get away really cheap, try the Okuma Stratus at Dick's.  It's down to $34.99 right now in a 50 or 65 size.  You will not find a better quality reel at that price.

If you want something better. Check out the Shimano Spheros 6000 or 8000.  Same size frames but the 800 has a deeper spool.  They are on clearance at Dick's.  Regular price $100 - $110.  You can get one now (while they last) for around $70.

Good Luck! ;D
