Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
David Marshall and wife, Stacy Palatt, from Washington, DC came to Fort Lauderdale to see the sights and to do some deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL aboard the Happy Day Today, along with the Topshotfishing team.
We left the dock with blue skies and variable winds. Fifteen minutes from leaving the dock, lines were in the water at the drop off in Fort Lauderdale at 120 ft. deep. We put one plainer down with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos, two Bonito strips and a jap feather with a Ballyhoo dredge teaser.
As we trolled around, our target today was for some eating fish. We picked away at a few Bonitos on the reef and then I headed north to an artificial wreck that sits in 350 ft. of water. Our plainer rod tripped and the line started exiting the reel. David hopped into the chair to reel in a good size Black Fin Tuna while Stacy took videos of the action. I noticed a rip forming with a slight color change on it – a good avenue for fish to migrate down. We put out two kites and two live Goggle Eyes in each kite, while David spoke about his fishing trips in the Pacific Ocean. A Mahi Mahi appeared on the right short kite. David was the angler again while Stacy started videoing the action. All of a sudden another Mahi Mahi appeared on the left short. Stacy put her camera down and became the angler, enjoying the fight too. Both David and Stacy brought their Mahi Mahi’s close to the boat and Dave, our mate, gaffed them and put the Mahi Mahi’s in the fish box. Both Mahi Mahi’s were approximately 12 lbs, with Stacy’s being the Bull.
It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. On our ride back, we explained to David how to prepare their Mahi Mahi for tonight’s dinner.
