I am not a big power pro fan. I find that I like the Tuff Line XP better and slightly cheaper ten Power pro itself.

I use braid on 99%of my outfits from very light freshwater to heavier bass gear and some offshore gear.

No matter the brand you prefer, braid is the way to go.  Any of the name brand will do basically the same job.  No stretch, great feel of the bottom.

OK going to put braid on my surf pole, so any advise on how to load it up? I heard that if not tied correctly to reel spool the line could slip! Is a 60lb mono leader OK or should I go lighter or heavier for the big blues and bass? I want to try and stay away from steel leaders if I can.

make sure to put some backing on. match the diameter of your braid to the diameter of the mono backing.

I use about 5% backing and fill the rest of the  spool with braid.

I just got a new rod and reel set up and am trying braid for the first time. I took the salesman's advice and went with Suffix 30 lb. So far I like it. Especially when casting. Very smooth, no wind knots and awesome distance. The only thing I need to get used to is that the line is so sensative that every little bump feels like a fish is hitting your bait.

Hi All,

I switched to Power Pro on all my Surf reels.  I also have a 50/50 mix of mono and braid.  I have 20# test mono and 30# test Power Pro.  I love the stuff and have found little not to like about it.

One thing with braid though it has a tendency to slip into the wrappings on the spool.  So this doesn't happen make sure your drag is set properly.

A to tight drag and the slip ability of the braid causes this.

Also make sure your drag is set very loose if setting your rod into the sand spike many pols have hit the sand because of a too tight drag as well.

Happy Catching

If it matters, the only thing that powerpro does for you when surf fishing is gives you more distance with your cast.  We all know that the "form" of the cast the surfcaster uses to get his offering out into the suds matters a whole lot, as well as how the rod loads...

Powerpro gives you a bit more of an advantage with distance, as does any other braid, but with that said you increase your chances at getting windknots and other insane loops on the spool if something goes wrong with the cast.  Another advantage, even though you should put a good deal of backing on your reel, is that you will be able to load more line onto the reel with braid.

When it comes to working the plug or dancing a pencil, it really doesn't matter, again its all in the form the angler possesses.

FWIW, I still use mono on all of my surf outfits  TT^
