Sail Fishing Fort lauderdale Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

David Dodero and son, Chad, along with David’s sister and brother-in-law from Virginia decided to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL so he chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team.  For the past three years, David has charted the Happy Day Today each year for his fishing trips.

Winds today were out of the northeast at 15 mph.  We left Bahia Mar dock and headed out to the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL that sits in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore and 15 minutes from the dock.  We started off flying two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite.   As David was on the bridge with me talking about our past fishing trips in Fort Lauderdale, a Mahi Mahi appeared on the left short kite.  Chad was the angler and he jumped into the fighting chair.  The Mahi Mahi was a hungry one as he swam over to the right short kite bait and ate that one too.  Chad brought the Mahi Mahi to the side of the boat and Jackson, our mate, gaffed and put the Mahi Mahi in the fish box to be served for dinner later that day.  From there we went back to the sea buoy to set up both kites.   With two live Goggle Eyes from each kite, we sat and waited for his arrival.  He didn’t let us down – a black shadow appeared with dorsal fin out of the water, as he attacked the bait like a lion jumps on his prey.  The fun began!!  The Sailfish immediately came out of the water, showing his brilliant neon colors as the sun reflected down on him.  Chad was the angler again, with his enthusiasm running high as this was his first Sailfish.  He expertly brought the Sailfish to the boat for picture taking and was released.

Everyone had a good time, but it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
