Fished Salmon River 9/21 - 9/23
« on: September 23, 2007, 09:33:16 PM »
Ok went up to Pulaski with my dad and his freind Jeff. This was kind of a learning experience for my dads freind jeff as hes never been salmon fishing in his life. There were plenty of salmon, and a few steelhead around. But very rarley would they get caught. We fished in town under the bridge in Pulaski for hours in the morning on Saturday and we got snag after snag after snag. The water was extremely low, and the fish that were caught were directly next to us 3, to the left and to the right. It made us angry. My dad is an awesome salmon fisherman and he was getting skunked. We moved over to fish the Black Hole and there were hundreds of salmon hanging out in the deep water and flopping on the top and this and that. Only few would get caught. The water was about 63 degrees and I think it was too warm out. We all knew it was a little to early for salmon and steelhead fishing, but we had the rest of the month to use our fishing license from 2007 until October 1st before it expired. So what the hell ? Anyway, didnt catch anything between the 3 of us all day saturday but there were some salmon taken and very rarely would we see a steelhead caught. Went out to dinner Last night had an italian buffet, and what not, went back to the Super 8 Motel and drank some beers and just relaxed. Fished this morning, started out by the bridge again but of course you always have a$$holes who think there the best who barge in wherever they want. This guy decides to walk IN FRONT of us deeper in the river and fish, and we werent able to cast. He is lucky we were leaving the spot or we would have drowned him if he didnt move. My dad would have not a question about it. But anyway, moved over to the black hole at about 9 am, decided to use a Rooster tail spinner and on my first cast, I guess I must have hit a salmon on the head and pissed it off or something, but it slammed my rooster tail and I was hooked up. Nice 18 LB king salmon. My dad had netted it, I got it filleted up at a cabin and went back to fishing. No more luck though, lots and lots of salmon in the river, just hard to catch. Got back home 9 PM tonight. I had a great time with my dad, and I dont spend to much time with him because he lives in Pennsylvania so it was awesome. I look up to my father and hope to follow in his path with fishing and with work, and I hope to experience many more good times with him, and his freinds. He needs to stop smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking so we can do this all the time. I would hate to see something happen he is only 44 years old but has had some health problems in the past but it just worries me to death. Anyway, this is a fishing post and I dont want to hop off topic. I caught 1 fish in 2 days, as my dad and his freind were skunked. We had a great time and were going back up middle of October. Good luck everyone who goes up there, the locals are annoying.

Hopefully will have a picture of me with the fish in a few days.
