FYI / SEA ANCHOR

Was crusing the web and Cabelas web site noticed the had Sea Anchors/ Drift Socks listed in their "BARGIN CAVE" section if anyone is looking for one. Not that it's a big savings but they do knock a couple of bucks off.

What are drift socks? Obviously to slow the drift down I would think, but how do they work? Just wondering...

You wear them over your boots.

It's like a parachute you tie off to a cleat and it fills with water to slow the drift. Also good in a storm when you cannot anchor in deep water. Tie it off at the bow and it will keep your bow facing the oncoming waves.

I bought a brand new pair of drift socks last year - first time through the laundry and one of them gets lost. Every time

drift socks, to me, are very important.  They control your speed and also will help stabilize your boat in rough conditions. I always carry mine.. It is used very often.  If you tie it off to your side cleats, it will give you a side drift, hence everyone can fish off to one side of the boat.

I have never used mine 

I was on the Funky Munky one time and we deployed Mike's and it din't do squat. It was useless. Then he almost wrapped it up in the prop.

I usually have the opposite problem and need to power drft to put fluke in the boat.

If I ever needed it I'd venture a 5gal bucket would prolly work better.

I used to use one when slow trolling kingfish down in South Carolina, the extra drag slows the troll below my minimum idle speed.

Some  of my socks seem to drift in and out of the rotation.Wifey claims the washing machine eats em up. .
Drift socks are helpful if used correctly.I am always concerned about tying off to a beam cleat and have a few guys fish that side causing the boat to broach.I do not use a  drift sock; I just hang my lunch bag over the side.

there is your first problem.. the problem wasn't the sock, it was the operator.. lol
