Pilot - Flatties, Striper and Blues 5/18
« on: May 19, 2013, 08:55:20 PM »
Was out with Skunk, a long time good friend (50 years), for a day, of fishing.   We loaded up with clam, Killie, and squid looking to make a round out day of it.   Headed to the back and made a live well of bait with a toss of the Percy.   Played around knocking a couple of Flatties on the head with spro, gulp Killie combos.  Picked away at 9 fish putting 2 19" ers in the box.   Headed out to the Knoll and tightened up the hook and commenced getting the slick in shape.   Fish wanted absolutely nothing with the clam except for a single Lionel Ritchie.    Skunk resorted to livelining while I tested the clam.   His baits got repeatedly mauled by Blue fish returning half chunked twitching bunker heads nosmly, a number of 6-8 lb bluefish covered in sea lice.   The bastards were ravenous eating any form of bunker put in front of them.   They'd pick up bunker heads with the same subtlety as a striper.   Had us going on a number of occasions thinking we had the right species until they made aggressive runs deep or quick surface aerobatics.   We held out hope and enjoyed the fight with everyone of these fish.  We did manage one decent line sider on a bunker head and landed well over 20 demons releasing all but two smaller ones for the table.

Overall, a great day with Skunk.  Couldn't ask for better trip t^
