Had a scheduled vacation day that I was reluctant to give back. Thought about it with the E SE but stuck with the game plan. Launched at 7 and headed up the river and got a few decent drifts before the slack. Put one in the box with 5 other shorts returned. We made good use of the tide change and found a load of bunker. Hats off Jay for getting the bead on em and then keeping the Z'O on top of them. The toss is out and fanned like an outdoor deck umbrella. Glitter gold to the top and line is retrieved till they're boat side. We hump up the net and get it over the gunnel. Skunk made quick work of unloading. Released a bunch and filled the live well for strip bait or striper. Tough decision. Stayed the course and continued to pick away short, cocktail, short, keeper in a rhythmatic pattern. We fished it hard on the outgoing with drifts working diagonal to the current. Buck tail and a clouser tipped with fresh bunk delivered the goods for me. Jay was hammering them early on Pink buck tail and pink gulp until we ran out of inventory. Then got chilled and came on strong toward the end of the trip. Skunk did the wild thing on a triple threat config tipping his buck tails with chartreuse gulp. Minnows were out fished by the strip bait.
Finished up at 12:45, putting 8 keeper on board. One of which was airlifted by Jay, unhooked in transit, slide across the live well and past Skunk for a quick re-entry. Too funny watching Jays jaw drop and Skunks head pivot from left to right while pulling on Marlboro. New art form of catch and release.
We had about 25 shorts and also kept 4 nice cocktails for the BBQ.
Good day with boys!
