Had Bob C, Naked Eddie, Kevin and Tom out for a fish hunt today, leaving the dock at about 8am.
Went north out of the inlet, no sign of bunker, so we made our first stop at the red church, where we had fish on our last trip. Seems like the church services were over and all the fish departed the pews, and left us with the smell of Pepe la Pew
Headed to the Shrewsbury Rocks making a few stops on the way. Didn't get a bite until noon time. Very disappointing start.
Finally made it to the rocks and immediately hit three keeper fluke at once. Made that drift several more times hooking up with fish on every drift. Had action until the tide changed and someone threw the switch. A very slow pick after that.
Made our way back toward the inlet and stopped on a large pod of bunker just north of the inlet. Snagged a couple dozen for bait for a friend and headed to the barn.
Total for the box was 9 fluke up to 22" and 3 decent size sea bass. Many short sea bass today at the rocks (not that we were targeting them) and about the same number of throw back fluke as keepers for a 1:1 throw back/keeper ratio.
Bait dragging seemed to work about the same as gulp with the fluke favoring the gulp by a shade.
Sorry no pics, didn't even think about dragging out the camera.
Be back at it again tomorrow.
