The first weekend of astronomical Summer (meteorological Summer began June 1st) is still looking to be really nice!  This is the weather we have all been waiting for.  Both Saturday and Sunday look dry, with a very, very low chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms on Sunday, primarily for northern NJ.  There is not any widespread rains forecast, nor any systems that would bring widespread rain to the area.  High temperatures will be in the upper low to mid 80's inland with temperatures along/on the water and in northern NJ closer to the mid 70's.  Overnight lows will only make it into the mid 60's.  Air will definitely be more humid with the high pumping air from the south into the region.  Water conditions look good for all locations across the board.  Inshore waters will see winds to 10 knots or so, initially from the northeast and east before switching to the south/southwest on Saturday and then the southwest only Sunday.  Seas will average around 2 feet at 9-10 seconds with an increasing southerly swell.  The southwest winds could increase to 20 knots and seas 2-3 feet by late Sunday into Monday, however these should remain below Small Craft Advisory criteria.  Midshore to Offshore waters will also be good with winds to 10 knots max and seas 2-3 feet at 9-10 seconds.  Winds and seas may increase on Sunday Night to 20 knots and 3-4 feet.  Water temperatures are up a few degrees with rivers and bays into the low 70's, inshore ocean waters pushing into the upper 60's and even 70's and midshore to offshore into the mid 60's.  This southerly flow/southern swell could upwell some colder waters, though.  Surf conditions look normal all weekend with winds to 10 knots and wave heights 2-3 feet max.  Rip risks will remain low to moderate depending how high the swell gets from the southerly flow.  If the swell hits 3 feet rip current risk will become moderate.  UV Index will be Very High all weekend with a value of 9 & 10.

High pressure currently over the area will build offshore and remain to our east through the weekend.  A weak backdoor cold front will sag southward towards the region on Sunday, but will not cross into the area.  High pressure will drift east enough to leave the area on the west side of the high pumping warm, moist air from the south into our region.

I've added a Barnegat Bay around mid Island Beach State Park to the Outlook with tides and "surf conditions" along the shore.  I also added to Ocean Currents Maps at the bottom below Sea Surface Temperatures.  I know there was a lot of talk about fast currents last weekend.  This will cover surface currents and currents around 65 feet.

Enjoy the weekend!

Matt

Another nice day to start the weekend.  High pressure is king again, today with clear and sunny skies across the state with highs into the lower to mid 80's inland with mid 70's along/on the water.  Humidity will be comfortable today.  Humidity is higher this morning, as is normal, however by later this morning into the afternoon those numbers will moderate down.  However today will be a little more humid than this week was, but not as humid as tomorrow and the start of the upcoming week will be. Raritan Bay looks good with SW winds 5-10 knots and seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay looks good with a SSE around 10 knots with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay also looks good with SE winds 5-10 knots and seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore water conditions look good for all locations with S/SW/SE winds to 10 knots max and seas 2-3 feet at 10 seconds.  There is a chance of fog during the overnight and into the morning hours reducing visibility 1-3 nm.  Fog will clear by mid morning at the latest.  Beach and surf conditions look normal with a Moderate Risk of rip currents today.  Wave heights around 2-3 feet with SW winds up to 10 knots.  UV Index Very High at 9/10!

Tomorrow is looking just a nice across all boards!

Enjoy the weekend...

Another nice day today.  Sunny skies mixed with some clouds with clouds increasing later in the afternoon.  There is a very low chance of an isolated or scattered thunderstorm today, especially later this afternoon into the evening and during the overnight.  Temperatures in the mid to upper 80's inland with the possibility of 90's for some areas.  Along/on the water temperatures will be in the upper 70's to low to mid 80's.  More humid air has moved in and will continue moving in today, making muggy conditions.  Lows tonight will only be in the mid to upper 60's.  A little windier today with the potential for some gustier winds.  Water conditions look good today for all locations, however this afternoon winds and seas could pick up.  Raritan Bay area will see SW winds 5-10 knots picking up to S 10-15 knots with possible 20 knot gusts and seas around 1 foot.  Winds will subside some later tonight.  Areas of patchy fog into the overnight hours making visibility down to 1-3 nm.  Barnegat Bay has S winds 7-10 knots with seas at 1 foot.  Delaware Bay has SW winds 5-10 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore waters SW/SE winds to 10 knots with some higher gusts with winds increasing to 15 knots with some gusts to 20 knots this afternoon with seas 2-3 feet at 9-10 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore has SW winds to 12 knots increasing to 16 knots with 20 knot gusts and seas 2-3 feet at 9 seconds.  Surf conditions are normal with a Moderate Risk of rip currents with SW winds 5-10 knots and seas around 2 feet.  UV Index Very High at 9/10.

Enjoy the day, even with the possible thunderstorms and increased winds on the water.  Remember if you hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning, so take cover in a vehicle or building.

Lightning Safety

I will have a complete Week Outlook later today.  The week is looking very unsettled for weather and water conditions and very hot and humid.
