Went out sharking for the annual get together trip on a friend's NS charter boat. Headed out under great conditions after the storms blew through before we got out there. Set up and you got it...the wind died out, no drift. Weatherman missed the call again, we had sunny skies and decent ocean conditions,. Chummed away for hours without a hit. Started seeing small mackerel so we jigged some up for future bait needs (look out Saturday). Finally at 1PM, the shallow rod bumps, the float starts to move and then the line began to peel. Hook was set and it was game on. The beast was fought for 1 hr 45mins until the crew brought it to the boat and finally get a good look at it to see a huge Thresher shark. I was fortunate to be #1 position today and had the joy of fighting the shark for the initial run off and cat and mouse game of winding in and running off again. In the end, it was boated and brought to the scales, weighing in at 286 lbs at Fishermen's Den. Great to be out there today and better that we were able to get the 1 bite that counted and successfully finessed the shark in. The boat picture does not do it justice, body was 84 inches while the tail was 81 inches long.
