Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Clarence Siler (Si), formerly with the 49’er/Raiders, brother, Rich Siler, former player with the Dolphins and Cardinals, and Melissa Boyle from Sanford, FL chartered the Happy Day Today, along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. We had blue skies, winds out of the east, seas running 3-4 ft., the setting for today’s fishing charter.
As we left the dock we headed out to the Shark grounds located south of Fort Lauderdale FL in 350 ft. of water. We put 3 Shark baits out, one on the surface, one midrange and one on the bottom, along with a kite with two live Goggle Eyes. While the brothers were talking football, our bottom rod bent over – hooked up!!!! – for a short time, as the hooks pulled. Well, we will get the next one. We set up again - this time the black shadow appeared on the long kite bait. Bill and dorsal fin out of the water as the Sailfish chased the bait frantically – the fight was on as Si jumped into the fighting chair and started to do battle. The sun was shinning down on the Sailfish showing his magnificent neon colors. The Sailfish tail-walked towards the boat at tremendous speed. Twenty minutes later, the 94” Sailfish was brought to the boat. What a spectacular show the Sailfish put on. As time was running out, Si said, “Once is not enough – Let’s do it again tomorrow”, so the following day off we went again.
We started trolling and Melissa, our angler, caught a couple of Barracudas. We went back to the Shark grounds again with the same setup. Our deep line bent over as line screamed off the reel; then it went slack. Pulled hook!!! We reset again and this time the dorsal fin appeared on the surface Shark bait. The Shark grabbed the bait and we were hooked up. Melissa hopped into the fighting chair to do battle with the Shark, while Si remarked that this is the battle between the beauty and the beast. Thirty-five minutes later Melissa brought the Hammerhead Shark to the boat measuring 93”. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released unharmed to do battle again.
With happy smiles on everyone’s faces, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale Fl. 33316.
