Cod Fishing

I have never purposely targeted cod. What's the basics/skinny on this target. I relized they are a bottom fish and structure is important but, where are they generally found this time of year? Are the mudhole wrecks a good start?

This time of year in NJ you should look around the deeper wrecks. There are usually a few mixed in with the ling in the mud hole. The one boat I know targeting them is hitting wrecks generally in that area and a little further east.

Silly question.. Must you anchor? I thought I've read reports of the party boats drifting an area. I would think the SRR would provide plenty of cover that anchoring might not be needed.

If there is very little tide/current, drifting work well and you will cover more ground. Just be sure to keep an eye on your depth finder so you have an idea of when you are off the productive bottom and make a move back.

keep your slow drift over the wreck.  Sometimes while on the Monger we power drift over the structure.  Try it out

It was just a thought since the water is still a bit cold. I don't know if I'll get around to it or not. LOL
