Reel McCoy II 07/13/13 report

My son and I are fishing in the Sandy Hook Bay Anglers fluke tournament this weekend.  Well today we got a late start due to the fog, we stopped at the mouth of the Shrewsbury and drifted around catching short fluke, when we were surprised by a hot croaker bite. We put about a dozen in box, most for strip baits but took some home to try for dinner.  We also caught a large spot, 12" porgy and a few cocktail blues.   The fog finally lifted so we headed to Ambrose where Dan put a nice 4#er in the box along with another keeper.  We were drifting through a school of bunker when I hooked into something that took off like a rocket.  About 10 minutes later I got the Brown Shark boatside where we took his picture and released him.  I even got my gulp back.  The fog was rolling back in so I made a move and made a few drifts in the Swash channel where we caught another keeper, more shorts and some CBs.
Nothing to weigh in today but we had lots of action.  We were targeting one species but ended up catching ;Croaker, Spot, Porgy, Bluefish, Sea Bass,Sea Robin, Dogfish, Sundial, Brown Shark and our target species Fluke.
Back out there tomorrow hoping for a big one (even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and again  )

Sounds like a good day of fishing. Hope ya get sething for the scale tomorrow.

Also, croaker is very and I mean very good eating. To me its like opening a can of tuna, add a pinch of sugar, and you have croaker.
