Okay, I'm guilty as charged for skipping reports this year.
Here goes today:
Slept in with my wife this morning
, had a Bloody Mary instead of coffee, Hot Dogs for breakfast, (you might be a Redneck if ...) so I got a later than usual start, but sometimes it's good to change things up.
Dropped the crab pot in the Manasquan River on the way out about 8. Tired of drifting the river channel for Fluke due to the bad condition/wind days, I chose to look outside today. I started out at Manasquan Ridge to see what is going on out there. 3 baby robins for crab pot bait, that's what.
In to the Axel it was. Tried the Army Tanks for Sea Bass since the season is closing soon. Lots of almost keepers. Moved on to some rock piles. yep, they were home, put 6 for dinner in the box., seas were a building.
Headed south to the Reef Balls, lots of boats, both Head and Private drifting the area. WTF
That's "MY Spot". "You don't own the Ocean" I was quickly reminded.
3 short Fluke, 1 keeper, at that point it took 12 ounces to hold bottom. Headed back towards the inlet.
After checking out some nice Bikini Clad Women along the jetty and Dog Beach, we made it through the NJT RR Bridge and decided to do a drift or two. One short fluke, one keeper, off to my crab pot after a slow pass by Treasure Island.
After a 6 hour soak, I had 4 keepers & 3 small crabs, as well as a 6" & 12" fluke, which went back to the muddy bottom with the small crabs.
Not too bad, Sunday dinner and an appetizer in the live well, a few complaints about the sea conditions from my wife, who was advised as to how it was going to be last night.
To me, it's another day enjoyed on the water.
