NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: Aug 3-4, 2013

Another mixed weather Summer weekend to start out August.  Saturday will start off with chances of showers and thunderstorms.  There is some potential for severe weather on Saturday, but overall it looks like a scattered or widely scattered situation vs widespread storms.  Saturday should see a good amount of sun with some clouds and storms mixed in.  Sunday looks to be dry with mostly sunny and clear skies.  Temperatures will be comfortable in the mid to upper 80’s on Saturday and lower 80’s on Sunday inland.  Temperatures along/on the water will be in the mid 80’s on Saturday and low 80’s on Sunday.  Overnight lows will range from upper 50 to upper 60’s across the state with the cooler lows on Sunday Night.  Drier air will be in place on Sunday with Canadian Air moving in for a short time.  This will keep both temperatures and humidity lower and comfortable.  Water conditions are rated good for all locations.  Winds will be predominantly from the west, varying from due west to northwest and southwest.  Winds could get gusty on Sunday with gusts to 20 knots.  Offshore areas may see seas to 4 feet at times on both days.  Water temperatures are around the same they were this week with rivers and bay in the upper 70’s, Inshore ocean waters in the low to mid 70’s, Midshore to Offshore waters in the low to upper 70’s and surf temperatures in the low 70’s.  Surf and beach conditions look good with Low Risks of rip currents and wave heights in the 1-2 foot range or less with light winds mainly out of the west.  UV Index will be Very High at 8/15.

High pressure will control the area until Saturday Night when a secondary cold front will move through the area.  Canadian High Pressure will then build over the region later Sunday and Monday before moving out.

Next week will be very similar to the last week with slightly cooler temperatures and mostly sunny with some chances of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday with low 80’s in land and upper 70’s along/on the water.  Overnight lows will range from the upper 50’s for some north and western areas to upper 60’s along the coast.  Humidity will be low to moderate with drier air.  Water and surf conditions look good all week for all locations with Monday and Tuesday questionable for Midshore to Offshore with increased winds and seas along with increased winds on Tuesday for Inshore waters.

Yet again, the remnants of TS Dorian have not given up and look a little more organized today.  These remnants will not have time to evolve, organize or strengthen much before getting caught up in the trough/front and move up the coast.  This should only bring some moisture, if any to the region.  This is still something to watch over the next couple of days.  The rest of the tropics are quiet with some Saharan Dust in the air levels are preventing any tropical development off the African Coast.

Good morning!  Mostly cloudy already with showers moving in across parts of the state.  It is moderately hazy/foggy along/on the water in many coastal and marine areas.  There will continue to be scattered to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms all day coming out of the southwest moving northeast.  There is a generalized risk for severe weather so some of the thunderstorms could be strong to severe with damaging winds, frequent lightning and heavy rains!  Highs today in the low to mid 80's with low to mid 60's overnight.  Moist air is moving in so humidity will be higher today with muggy conditions.

Water conditions are rated good for all locations with a mainly western wind.  Any elevated seas from yesterday have settled down for today, but winds may pick up to 15 knots this afternoon.  Raritan Bay will have west winds around 10 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots tonight with seas 1-2 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less tonight.  Barnegat Bay will have west-southwest winds 9-12 knots diminishing to 6-8 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have west winds becoming northwest tonight at 5-10 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have west-southwest winds in northern areas, west winds in central areas and west-northwest winds in southern areas at 8-12 knots changing to the west in northern areas, west-northwest in central areas and northwest in southern areas at 7-15 knots in the afternoon.  Seas will be 2 feet at 6-11 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west-southwest winds 9-14 knots becoming west-northwest/west at 12-17 knots in the afternoon with seas 2-3 feet at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good today with Low Risks for rip currents, however showers and thunderstorms are possible.  Currently winds are out of the west/west-southwest at around 10 mph with normal surf with wave heights around 1-2 feet.  West winds will continue around 10 mph with some higher gusts and wave heights around 2 feet with a 2 foot south swell at 6 seconds.  Surf temperatures are still in the lower 70's.  UV Index is Moderate at 3/15.

Dorian is back and is now a Tropical Depression sitting right off the Central East Coast of Florida.  Dorian will move off to the northeast out to sea and will not threaten any land.  If it stays on the track it should remain far enough out and be a weak enough storm that the area does not feel any effects at all.

Good morning!  Despite a mostly cloudy and rainy day yesterday, it was mostly scattered and short, light showers that gave way to sun in the afternoon.  It also brought in some cooler and drier air yesterday from Canada.  Today looks very nice!  This morning it is sunny to mostly sunny across the state with very, very few clouds in places.  It will continue to stay sunny/mostly sunny into tonight when it will be clear to mostly clear skies.  A few clouds may move over parts of the state, but they will be fair-weather clouds and nothing to worry about.  There is no rain or thunderstorms in the forecast.  High temperatures will be in the upper 70's to low 80's inland with mid to upper 70's along/on the water.  Overnight lows will range from the upper 40's in northern areas to low 60's along the coast.  Temperatures are unseasonably low for the beginning of August and the next few days may feel more like late Summer/early Fall than mid Summer, but I don't think there will be too many complaints.  The air in place over the region is cooler, drier Canadian air, bringing lower dew points and less humidity.  Inland winds will be light and calm with winds breezier along/on the water.

Water conditions are rated good for all locations.  Winds will be moderate today for most areas with some gustier winds possible, especially across southern areas.  Winds will be variable, mainly out of the north and west, but could see some northeast winds as well.  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 5-10 knots and seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have northwest/north-northwest winds 9-12 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have northwest winds 5-10 knots increasing 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots in the afternoon then changing to north winds 10-15 knots tonight.  Seas will start out 1 foot or less increasing to 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have vary winds for northern, central and southern areas respectively, north/north-northeast/northwest at 7-11 knots becoming west-northwest/northwest/north at 6-14 knots with higher winds across southern areas.  Seas will be 2 feet at 6 seconds increasing to 10 seconds across northern areas.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have north winds 7-9 knots changing to west-northwest/northwest 7-13 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions look good today with Low Risks of rip currents and normal surf conditions.  Currently winds are varying from the north to west and in between at 5-10 mph with normal surf around 1-2 feet.  Winds will continue out of the northwest at 10-15 mph with wave heights 2 feet with a 2 foot south swell at 6 seconds.  Surf tempe/ratures are in the low 70's.  UV Index is Very High at 8/15.

Dorian has yet again weakened beyond Tropical Depression status and is now just a broad area of low pressure or tropical wave moving northeast and out to sea.  There should not be any major effects from this storm felt in the area.  At most maybe an increased longer period around 10 seconds early to mid week.  Even this is a stretch, though.  Other areas of the tropics continue to be quiet.
